ABOUT
The adoption of digital methods for capturing and transferring building-level information presents a promising avenue for addressing the challenges of ESG reporting. Digital building passports serve as tools to compile pertinent building-level data for stakeholders. However, these passports are typically tailored bottom-up for specific purposes and jurisdictions, raising concerns about their ability to fulfill the information requirements of all stakeholders across the real-estate value chain.

Our work aims to fix this disconnect by identifying and aligning the primary data points needed to meet the requirements of four major sustainability reporting schemes. By developing a data dictionary and an ontology, using this top-down approach we can provide building passport developers with a comprehensive set of building-level data points that can be captured to meet multiple reporting requirements.
This work is all about FAIR research and development. It aims that Knowledge in Motion: Inspiring Practice through Academic Research. The project is led by Dr. Kell Jones and supported by Dr. Karim Farghaly from UCL, funded by the Circular Building Coalition and managed by UCL Consultants.
